RIGA

The Black Heads | Riga Latvia

...and the Coastal Line of Latvia

18th August - 19th August | 2022

Today I will do my sightseeing tour through the centre of Riga. As it will be getting hot, I left early the hotel. I managed to go by tram into town (thanks to google maps = every day is a school day!) I visited the House of the Black Heads, the statue of Bremer Stadtmusikanten, the Swedish Gate, The Three Brothers and just took in the fantastic architecture of this old Hanseatic City.

After another night of bad sleep, I got up earlier this morning. The problem with the hotel is that the room has no A/C, so you have to have the window to the main road wide open - too busy = too noisy to sleep!

Today I made created a mixture of just riding the coastal road, hugging the TET or just going gravel roads back to the coastal road.

During my lunch snack (I could write a "Guide of Petrol Stations", anybody interested?), a Latvian motorbiker driver approached me. I had a nice conversation with Edvards as he also travels a lot, not only by bike! In Kolka, I asked a German Camper-driver, if he could look after my bike whilst I was going to take pictures. I ended up with Uwe then in a nice long conversation also about travelling. Not many kilometres were done today though, but I rather enjoyed these chats!

I found a very nice and small privately owned campground on iOverlander. The owner had a good sense of humour when we were looking up a place to stay for me ... far away from couples, to not get disturbed ;-)

Tomorrow I will be the last night in Latvia, before heading back to Lithuania.

I contacted Knut via "Bunk a Biker" and I can stay at his place tomorrow - fantastic! Looking forward to meeting him and listening to his stories!

In case you are also curious, try a "Riga Black Balsam" whilst you are waiting for the next blog.
