Gdansk Danzig - Poland - Moto Momentum with Steffi

Visit of Wolf’s Lair and Gdansk

24th August - 26th August | 2022

This morning I took it easy as I had to allow Angelo a bit of advantage as we were planning to meet late lunch at Wolfs Lair, about 80km away. I planned to do it off-road, as that naturally takes longer. OsmAnd took me over amazing alleys (backroads), very old cobblestone roads and offroad. Here in Poland again lots of sand, but mainly easy to ride. I also went a lot of forest tracks, that was only for forest and farmers allowed, so I hoped for the best to not get caught!

The visit was really interesting, seeing the dimension of the place. First, they build the place to be non-destructible and then they struggled to destruct it!

As it was too late to get anywhere tonight, I decided also to camp on the adjusted campground. I left my big bag behind with Angelo and drove to the nearest town to get some beer and water for tonight. And this evening we could chat a bit longer as no mosquito attacks!

The next morning it was humid and foggy. I was lucky that I didn’t pitch up my tent under the trees in the end, so it was pretty dry for packing away. Today was another day of street riding; it looks like that will be now for a long time! First I went to Lizbark-Warminski to see the castle as I was recommended. As there was not much to see I had a cafe break before doing the boring 120km to Malbork.

The weather remained clouded and humid, but not too hot, only when the sun came occasionally through. Actually, I was lucky not to get in any rain showers! In Malbork I took pictures of the famous castle, apparently (one of) the biggest of its kind in Europe; and also a UNESCO heritage. It was a really impressive seized castle!

I arrived in Gdansk during the afternoon at a small guesthouse. I had arranged with them to do my laundry as I am overdue, and they made a good price for it! One thing ticked off my list!

The next morning my sightseeing started well. First I went on the tram without a ticket as this time you need to buy the ticket at the station! So once I got the ticket, I went on the next tram, but with a lack of orientation, so I drove in the wrong direction! Luckily it finished after 3 stations ;-) So I had to get the next tram, this time in the correct direction! As it was today 30C, after the 8 stops I felt I had travelled in a sauna!

Once arrived in town I was gobsmacked! What a beautiful town - one house is more beautiful than the other! I think Gdansk will rank under the top 3 of the most beautiful cities I have visited so far on this trip! I really enjoyed that! After I have seen all the sights I wanted to see, it was time for some late lunch. I found a nice place with a view over the waterfront and the old crane! What do you want more?

I am coming closer to Germany! So have a lovely evening and I am looking forward to meeting you again in the next blog - in Germany!

In the meantime in the Algarve, Portugal, James is busy constructing the shower/toilette/kitchen area for the MotoCamp Algarve. I am so glad the project finally goes ahead and he hopefully soon can welcome the first motorbikers!
