Days Off | Fossacesia

Punta Aderci Vasto | Abruzzo Italy | Moto Momentum with Steffi & James

... Holiday of Holidays!

25th March | 2022

Whilst one had a lie in on our first day off, the other one was already busy pressure-washing our dirty bikes - last evidence of offroad ACT Italy goodbye! In the afternoon we went to Punta Aderci, Vasto. What a difference to ride the bikes without the luggage on! We had a little stroll around Punta Aderci, also a little walk on the beach. When we came back, there was a young couple around our bikes. We started talking, and after the initial chatting with Anselmo and Francesca, we gave them our stickers. As he seems to travel a lot within Italy, Steffi asked him for suggestions for routes or places to see on our future route through Italy. As we caught him by surprise, we suggested to send us an email with suggestions.

When we later got home from our little sightseeing and shopping tour, Anselmo had already sent us an email through our blog. He had put together a nice route for us to cross over to Amalfi and asked if we could meet the next evening. Of course! Wow, how fantastic is that!

The next day we visited Fontana Grande di Civitanova and the beach at Costa Tabocchi. Back to our little apartment, it was catching up on blog, pictures, emails, etc. until we met Anselmo down at the beach. This time he came with his African Twin 1100 Adventure. You can imagine that we got a bit carried away chatting about bikes and tours ;-) But as soon as the sun was gone, it was getting again very cold so we had to say goodbye to our new friend Anselmo.

Back to our apartment, James started to put Anselmo's route suggestion together for a GPX-route and Steffi checked the weather forecast for crossing the mountains as we were itching for some wild camping. Unfortunately, it was forecasted rain, so we changed our plan to extend it for another night here at the apartment. It also worked out with our host as she accepted our payment offer.

So Saturday was more maintenance, re-packing for some downsizing, chilling, spa-day, washing, etc - and we were so in our world, that we forgot to take any pictures of these activities - sorry ;-(

As we are now staying another day, we text Anselmo to see if he would like to go for a little tour the next day, if he has no other plans. Anselmo and Francesca were up for it, so we arranged to meet Sunday morning down at the beach.

Sunday morning, we met at the beach at 9.30 and off we were on our bikes into the mountains. He showed us the area of Castello de Roccascalegna. A very old castle on the top of a mountain, obviously famous for movies. After that, we drove off to Gole di Pennadomo and then for lunch in Villa Santa Maria. There we could taste some traditional Antipasti - yummy!

As it was already getting late, we decided to have a drink at the beach in their home town Vasto. Finally, there is a beach with lots of sand! So far we only saw beaches full of pebbles ... yes, I know, we are in the Algarve really privileged ;-) What a nice way to finish the fantastic day we had with Anselmo and Francesca! Check out his Youtube channel as he does really nice videos of his motorbike tours! Thank you so much you both - it will stay in our memories that day; actually the moment we met you at the parking lot until we said goodbye at Vasto beach.

Back at our apartment, it was time to start a bit of organising ourselves for packing up.

Amalfi coast - we are coming! Watch this space for our next blog; about our visit to Pompeii and the Amalfi coast and what will be our next leg of the trip!
